New Acropolis:
50 Years of Philosophy Worldwide.
Fifty years of continuous activities in support of philosophical
thought, culture, international understanding, tolerance and
protection of the environment.
International Organization and a School of Philosophy in the
Classical Tradition New Acropolis was founded in 1957 by Jorge Angel
Livraga, a historian and philosopher. Today it has centers in over
50 countries worldwide.
Since 1991, following the death of the founder of New Acropolis, the
President of the International Organization has been Delia Steinberg
Guzmán. In 2005, Beatriz Diez Canseco was appointed Deputy
International President.
Interview Delia Steinberg Guzman :
" New Acropolis came into being in order to give philosophy a new
lease of life – understanding philosophy as the eternal quest for
the root of things, for the reason why, those questions which we
human beings are constantly asking ourselves and trying to answer.
That is why philosophy and love of knowledge are at the heart of New
Acropolis. It is also a way of looking for the heart of human beings.
And in this way, each one of us and all of us together can find this
wisdom which we are so much in need of and for which New Acropolis
came into being.
Philosophy has never been about purely theoretical knowledge; it has
always reflected the different facets of life.
Since the earliest times, history has kept memories of the Schools
of Philosophy in its records.
New Acropolis is an attempt to apply the knowledge and values of the
ancient Schools of Philosophy, which continue to be relevant for the
lives of human beings today.
Interview Delia Steinberg Guzman :
" That is why we talk about a school of philosophy in the classical
tradition. This doesn’t mean that we want to set up schools like the
ones that existed in Egypt or Greece, or Rome, or in any of the
other civilizations of the world; it means to use the classical
concept of philosophy as a way of life, a way that can enable us to
develop ourselves and to achieve the best of ourselves. This is why
we call it a School of Philosophy "
